My name is Maddie Malmsten, and I’m a surf filmmaker and photographer from Santa Barbara, California. For me, creativity isn’t just a passion—it’s a calling. My approach to my work is purpose driven, because I believe I can make a difference.

Photography and film became a natural outlet for me to express how I see the world—particularly the beauty of nature and the raw emotion found in everyday life. I’m passionate about capturing moments that reflect both adventure and authenticity. I strive to bring energy, emotion, and storytelling into every frame. Growing up surfing and being around the ocean has not only given me a deep appreciation for nature’s beauty but also a responsibility to protect it. The ocean inspires my storytelling, and my passion for conservation. Photography and film are the tools I use to share my heart with the world. 

I strive to make my work unique by capturing the gold in people—their courage, their heart, and the beauty that makes them who they truly are.Every shot I take is more than just an image; it’s a moment of connection. I get the opportunity to reflect the best version of someone back to them and remind them of their value, their purpose, and the beauty they carry within.

My dream is to use film to inspire others to know they belong—to believe that we are all chosen for a unique purpose only we can fulfill. Through my lens, I hope to awaken courage, celebrate identity, and reflect the beauty of both people and the world we live in.
